One week mark

We have officially had the girls with us for a week and two days. It is still very surreal that we are here living with them as a family. What an adventure this is. We have a pretty good routine going.....breakfast, coloring/crafts (we call it school), lunch, then we venture out for the afternoon, home for dinner, bath and bed.....of course there is playing with toys, tata's ipad and watching a movie here and there. There are also lots of kisses and hugs, I love you's in both Polish and English and cuddle time. I don't want to sugar coat our experience....there is also a lot of "remember to listen to mama and tata", a lot of no's (from both us and the girls), a few tears and a lot of learning patience (both us and them)
Yesterday we visited a historic park with many old buildings from the Polish region we are in. The girls loved exploring the park with the highlight being a private pony petting session. Today we saw Shrek 4 in 3D (first rainy day in two weeks) they were awesome. They took off their little shoes, crossed their legs and sat so very quietly with their glasses (which were way to0 big for them) and watched the entire movie without a peep. The only thing that makes me sad is that I can't ask them what their favorite part was...I know that will come.

Here is one of our favorite songs the girls sing while we ride on the train.....it is very catchy...in fact Vito can't stop singing it!

  1. So wonderful to hear things are going well! Of course there are adjustments and reminders, but those hugs and kisses are the best! That is a catchy tune :-)

  2. Congratulations on getting though the first week. Despite the periodic no's and the tears, it sounds like you are having an amazing time. Reading the posts make us miss Poland so much. Please please please take full advantage of the times that you have nothing to do but hang out. Towards the end I was getting really ready to head home and begin our lives as a family. Now I wish I would have fully appreciated the time that we had to only focus on ourselves and no one else. When we did finally get home there were so many who needed something from us that it makes me miss Poland that much more.

The salt mines (you mentioned the mines in a previous post) are indeed amazing, but there are TONS of stairs which might be difficult with two little ones. But again, they are amazing... one of my favorite things in Krakow. You might just have to find a way to make the mines work.

Of course Auschwitz and Berkinau are must sees since you are so close to them. I am so glad we went.

We stayed in Warsaw the majority of the time and just visited Krakow for a couple of days. I would have liked to have seen more than we were able to fit in. We did do as much sight seeing in Krakow and Warsaw as possible and feel it added so much to the trip.

  3. It sounds like your trip is going really well. I am glad you have had the chance to get out so much. Reading about yours and Julie's adventures in Poland has me really excited about our trip there whenever the time comes. It sounds like the girls are adjusting really well. We are all so happy for you and your sweet family.

  4. Thanks for sharing! I'm sure someday you'll all be able to talk about "when you were in Poland" and didn't speak the same language- I'm sure the girls will have so much to share about how they feel right now!

  5. Congratulations MOM and DAD (tata)!:) I bet this week has gone by so fast (what a change from how the time can drag on during the waiting)! Can't wait to see photos of your girls, and all of you as a family! The song is cute too, my boys were fixated by the melody, thanks for posting the video. :) It's wonderful to read your updates!

  6. Great to hear from you guys. You are so smart to set a routine and go with it every day. It will make your transition home so much easier! I can just picture your girls soaking in Shrek in 3D! It's embarrassing how many kinos we went to while in Poland... But they really were a great way to spend a rainy (or snowy in our case) day. Keep writing it all down - the days go so fast!
